What to Expect

Class Reunions

Each year, Upton Fun Days welcomes Upton alumni back to town to celebrate their class reunions. A tradition in Upton, alumni reunite with their old classmates to celebrate the anniversary of their graduation from Upton High School. This year, you can expect anywhere from a 10-year class reunion to a 60-year class reunion.

Parade

A tradition during Upton Fun Days is the annual parade, where businesses, organizations and community members join in celebrating the accomplishments of Upton. During the parade, the Upton Chamber of Commerce announces the Upton Citizen of the Year. This award is given to a resident in Upton that has made a lasting impact in the community, either past or present, to better the quality of life for all. Last year’s recipient was Sandy Hart, founder of Little Safari Daycare in Upton.

Free Barbeque

The climax of Upton Fun Days takes place at the Upton City Park, where everyone gathers in the late afternoon for a barbeque. Prepared by Joe’s Food Center and volunteers, the Upton Chamber of Commerce hosts a free barbeque for everybody in Upton for Fun Days. With enough food to feed 500+ people, this is not something you want to miss!

Joe Haynes Memorial Golf Tournament

Every year since 1997 the Cedar Pines Golf Course has hosted the Joe Haynes Memorial Golf Tournament in Upton. Haynes was an instrumental figure for developing and opening the golf course, and put in countless hours to help the course run, all while owning and operating Joe’s Food Center. After his death in 1996, Cedar Pines has hosted the tournament to honor his dedication to Cedar Pines, Joe’s Food Center and the town of Upton.

Downtown Activities

Over the past couple of years, we have been fortunate to see a rejuvenate of evening activities downtown, with the Irontown Tavern hosting a street dance and concert for individuals and families. Upton is familiar with hosting concerts, as the community welcomed Black Hawk for the centennial event in 2009, and has worked to bring back concerts and street dances to the Fun Days lineup the past few years.

With so many things to expect for Fun Days 2022, this is a weekend that you will not want to miss! Be on the lookout for the official 2022 Fun Days Schedule from the Weston County Gazette so you can begin planning your trip to Upton this July.
