Wyo makers encouraged to celebrate Manufacturing Day Oct. 6

Wyoming business advocates want to help manufacturers promote and celebrate the industry with their neighbors this fall.

The Wyoming Business Council, Manufacturing-Works and Alliance of Wyoming Manufacturers are partnering with interested manufacturers to hold open houses, community cookouts, school tours and product demonstrations in the week leading up to the sixth annual Manufacturing Day on Friday, Oct. 6.

More than 2,800 organizations held events across North America in 2016. These celebrations provide opportunities for students, educators, businesspeople, media, politicians and the general public to learn about the variety of products being made in their communities. Manufacturers can use these events to tell people their story, debunk outdated myths about the industry and inspire the next generation of manufacturers.

Manufacturing is a $2.4 billion industry in Wyoming and accounts for 5.3 percent of the state’s gross domestic product. The industry is a key source of good-paying jobs – Wyoming’s 9,800 manufacturers average $64,600 in annual wages.

The 520-plus firms can be found in every county in Wyoming and create products from raw materials ranging from beef, yarn and grains to steel, coal and electronics.

Companies interested in hosting an event are encouraged to call Ron Gullberg, Wyoming Business Council Communications Director, at 307-777-2833, or Gustave Anderson, Director of Business Development at Manufacturing-Works, at 307-760-9977.
