Joe Samuelson, of Upton, is set to take the helm of Upton High School as Principal, beginning in the 2022-2023 school year. The Weston County School District No. 7 (WCSD7) Trustees approved his hiring at the end of their regular meeting on Wednesday, February 9th, following the recent retirement announcement by current Upton High School Principal Linda Crawford, effective the end of this school year. The motion for Samuelson's hiring was made by Trustee Woody Gaughenbaugh and seconded by Trustee Ty Miller.

Samuelson, his wife Darian Samuelson, and their three children, are fixtures in the Upton community and WCSD7, with both Joe and Darian being teachers and coaches.

Samuelson told the Gazette that he's very excited to take on this new administrative role, as it allows him a greater opportunity to make an impact in the lives of Upton's youth. "I am very excited to be taking on this new role! I have a strong love of this community which has embraced my family and I over the last seven years," Samuelson explained, adding, "I have a particular passion for serving the youth here and this new role will allow me to do that in a greater capacity. I am grateful for the trust bestowed on me and I will serve with the absolute best of my abilities!" Samuelson's resignation as Upton Middle School Football coach was also approved.

In other WCSD7 employment business during the meeting on Wednesday night, Upton Elementary/Middle School Principal Gary Glodt had his employment renewed as Principal, Director of Special Education, and Transportation Director. Frankie Medlen's employment was renewed as Technology Director, and Les Bishop's employment was renewed as Director of Maintenance.

The WCSD7 Trustees also approved the hiring of Tiffony Riehemann as custodian. The resignation of Laura Turner from WCSD7 was also approved by the Trustees.
