Senior Luca Brooks is set to continue his basketball career this fall, as it was announced that he will attend Rocky Mountain College this fall, in Billings, Montana. A three-time all-state selection, two-time Northeast Conference Player of the Year, Brooks led the Bobcats to back-to-back state championships during his three-year career in Upton.
In the 21-22 season for the Bobcats, Brooks led the team in three-point field goals made, twopoint field goals made, defensive rebounds, assists, steals and total points with 492 for the Bobcats. Brooks averaged 19 points a game and shot 51% from the floor.
The process for Brooks was challenging, as he knows how difficult it is to get noticed in high school to play sports in college. Luca compared the process as to how Wyoming football standout and Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen completed the recruiting process, “By sending hundreds of emails to coaches that included his stats and highlight videos.” Many coaches noticed, including Rocky Mountain Basketball Head Coach Bill Dreikosen.
Brooks knew that the decision was the right one for him the minute he stepped foot on the campus. While the smaller classes and friendliness of students on campus helped influence his decision, it was ultimately Dreikosen that helped Brooks make the decision. “At the end of my day touring the campus, I met Coach Dreikosen, and then I could only imagine being at Rocky. He welcomed me and made me feel confident about being a student-athlete,” Brooks explained.
“I got lucky with Coach Dreikosen because it is almost like having Coach Samuelson, but in college,” Brooks added. You can catch Brooks on the hardwood this coming winter, as he will compete in the NAIA Frontier Conference for the Battlin’ Bears.
