In 2021, WYDOT awarded $80,000.00 to the Town of Upton on condition of a 20% or $20,000.00 match for a total of up to $100,000.00 for a Planning Grant to address pathway needs in the Upton community. The concept is to map out areas of the town that need to and can be connected  by non-motorized transportation alternatives (like walking & biking). The Master Plan model will require public meetings to get input from the citizens and businesses for the wants and needs regarding pathways, as well as ideas already in mind for the Upton City Park pathways to be replaced and widened.

Once the Master Plan is complete, pathway projects can be added to WYDOT’s Statement of Intent (SOI) for consideration. The SOI is opened each year in the spring and entities for a period of time allowing entities with a Local Public Agency (LPA) Certified individual on staff to then work with the WYDOT crew vetting out and planning for projects that have been added to the list.

The Town has engaged with Bearlodge Engineering in Sundance through a steering committee and is awaiting contract documents that will be reviewed by WYDOT. The WYDOT crew has been great and will be close to the project at every step.
